Community & Multigenerational Events
The COA offers several community events each year for all ages, including:
Annual Summer Community Concert Series
During June and July, the COA — with generous support from local businesses — offers a free weekly summer concert series in the courtyard behind the Town Building. From big band music to country/western, oldies and classic rock ‘n’ roll, the music brings everyone together for a fun summer evening. (Concerts are held indoors if the weather is uncooperative.)
Annual Children’s Holiday Shoppe
For more than thirty years, the COA has offered a fun and festive Holiday Shoppe in early December where children in grades K – 5 can buy allowance-priced gifts for family and friends while their adult waits outside. Middle and high-school students serve as “elves” who help the youngest children shop.
The Shoppe is made possible with the help of nearly 100 volunteers. Throughout the year, COA volunteers shop for extreme bargains and create hand-crafted items for sale, including fleece pillows, jewelry, and decorative items. On the day of the Shoppe, volunteers help organize, set up, sell, and wrap gifts. Members of the Wayland Police and Fire Departments and teachers from the Wayland Public Schools are among our “celebrity” wrappers.
